Artist Feature – Jamie from FrecklePosted by Jessica on Mar 6, 2014 in Artist Features, Blog | 0 comments
Next up in our Artist Feature Series is Jamie from Freckle – Vintage & Handmade Goods. Her handstamped stone coasters have been a big hit here at J. Paris Designs! She will also be teaching a spring-time fabric wreath class as part of our Made By Me classes. Jamie seems to dabble in just about everything and has her items for sale all over town. Read on to hear more about the great items she creates.
What she creates:
I’ve been “creating” things for as long as I can remember, but turned it into a business about 4 years ago. First on Etsy and then I branched out to local shops. I focus on home decor, both handmade and vintage. I love the process of creating something from an idea in my head and I also love the thrill of the hunt when it comes to vintage pieces. My most successful creations are the hand stamped stone coasters you will find at J Paris Designs. They have been my top selling items on Etsy as well over the past few years.
Her creative background:
I have an associates degree in Fashion Merchandise Management from The Fashion Institute of Technology, a Bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising from Kent State, and job experience in buying for JoAnn Fabric & Craft. They set the ground work for the business aspect of what I do but I get the creativity from my family. I grew up with my grandma and mom both doing ceramics and painting.
Her “day job”:
My day job is being a mom to a 4 year old and one year old. Whenever possible I retreat to my “craft cave” and try to create new things or I venture out in search of some unique pieces.
Her creative influences:
I enjoy being in the know on the current home trends but then mixing those in with vintage pieces or other unique pieces. It makes life a little more interesting. I think your home should be a fun, functional, and comfortable place that reflects who you are and not just what everyone else is doing.
Her favorite project:
Right now I’m loving my daughters room….I refinished her dresser and changing table which were antique pieces from my moms house, created a unique mobile, monogram wall art, and transformed an old cabinet door into a picture frame. I love the fact that these are pieces she can keep knowing that I made them for her with my own hands and love.
